Sheffield Energy Works
Registration Number: 9655
Sheffield, UK
Incorporation date: 27 November 2025

Your money will…

  • Decarbonise a working Sheffield farm, cutting the equivalent CO₂ of removing 153 petrol cars from the road every single year

  • Fund the installation of an anaerobic digester and solar PV system that will supply around 90% of the farm’s annual energy demand

  • Help build a replicable model for community-owned renewable energy in agriculture

  • Earn a target interest rate of up to 4% per annum

The bigger picture

As part of the UK’s need to reach Net Zero, agriculture remains one of the hardest sectors to decarbonise. Sheffield Energy Works was established in 2025 to drive cross-sector decarbonisation and community wealth building in the Sheffield city region.
They are working with the Our Cow Molly farm on the reMooable Energy project. The technology is proven, planning is in place, and the Community Share Offer and Business Plan have been independently assessed and awarded the Community Shares Standard Mark. The project aims to:

    • Install an anaerobic digester (AD) to convert 14 tonnes of cow slurry per day into 220,000 kWh of electricity annually, with consistent output year-round.
    • Install a solar array to generate a further 153,615 kWh per year, with around 60% used on-site and surplus exported to the grid.
    • Produce digestate, a nutrient-rich byproduct of the AD, to replace synthetic fertiliser, displacing an additional 168,000kg of CO₂ per year.
Over the 25-year life of the project, more than 5.6 million kg of CO₂ will be saved. Every investor becomes a full member of Sheffield Energy Works CBS with an equal vote in how the Society is run.

What your money will do

Your investment in Sheffield Energy Works will:

    • Directly fund the procurement and installation of two complementary clean energy assets at the Our Cow Molly dairy farm.
    • Fund the procurement and installation of an anaerobic digester that will generate electricity, heat, hot water and natural fertiliser, redirecting cow slurry that would otherwise emit the methane equivalent of around 2,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
    • Fund the procurement and installation of a roof-mounted solar array.
    • Support a Community Benefit Fund contributing upwards of £1,000 per year to deliver wider community value across the Sheffield city region.
    • Help prove a concept of agricultural decarbonisation through a community ownership model whilst creating a blueprint that can be replicated across South Yorkshire – giving everyday people ownership of the clean energy transition.
